When exactly is it ok to be late to the party?

Skipping and shunning MySpace seems like a good idea; I am not even sure why the party got started there in the first place.

I just got back into Facebook (well, I’ve been on it for awhile, but really just to check it out initially), now that I’m here it is pretty cool. They’ve really added a ton of features within the last year that make it a nice place to hang out. The interface is simple, intuitive, and other than my wife asking “how is this any different than email” (to which I didn’t have a great answer), the system is pretty powerful.

Facebook is more powerful than LinkedIn; it touts better features, and is just plain more fun. You don’t have the spam of recruiters ruining the place, in fact, other than some stupid sponsored stuff ending up in your news feed, the place is spam-free– and I don’t even feel uncomfortable being in there and posting stuff about my personal life for all to see.

So I am late to the Facebook party, sue me. One of my Facebook friends even asked me what I was doing on it, stating “aren’t you too old for this?”

Well, I don’t think so, and anyway how would they grow if no one was late to the party. All of these social sites need people to continue to join, whether you are first or the last, it doesn’t matter. Someone needs to help keep these inflated valuations going.

The Sox opened the season at home today and put a hurting on the Mariners. In defense of the Mariners, they’ve been snowed out for a week. They were overmatched (and will be all year), Beckett even struck out the mighty Ichiro thrice.

For those that follow the Sox religiously, you may have come across Curt Schilling’s new blog (www.38pitches.com). In it, he does a great job with Q&A, insights into the game and has all but said that it is going to be his forum for getting info out, speaking his mind, etc. He is leading the way into a new era (no, not the hat company) for ways that pro athletes converse with their fan-base, all-the-while, leaving out the mass media and all of their twisting and turning of quotes to make their stories hum.

Schilling is using a simple wordpress blog, no big bells and whistles. Easy. Simple. I for one, enjoy reading it, and he’s done a good job keeping up on posts and not letting the blog get too stale. Time will tell, especially as the season drags on, if he keeps it up.

Sox 14-1 at the moment this was published (top 8th). Dice-K goes for us again tomorrow. Should be a dandy.
