We’ve all seen the 10000000 blog posts about Steve Jobs open letter to the music industry, suggesting that DRM be removed. What we are forgetting is that without it, we wouldn’t be where we are now. Apple was able to acquiesce the big studio’s concerns over selling online music, a huge step forward for everyone. Eventually, they’ll get comfortable with it and let it slide. Heck, the TV industry is cool with VCRs and TIVO, it just takes time.

I am happy to hear that Steve Jobs, the pioneer of online music sales to the masses is asking in an open format for DRM restrictions to be removed, but it is still early in the game. There will be plenty of time for this later. For now, lets be happy that there are devices out there for under $100 that let you tote around a music collection bigger than all of our parents ever had.

Someone submitted an article to digg.com about how to “hack” pandora. The Digg community quickly got all over them for trying to rip-off what has turned out to be (along w/ dreammachine, last.fm and a few others) a terrific way to discover new music. Pandora has replaced Yahoo Music Unlimited for me, no bulky software app to download and have crash on you; its a nice flash interface that is simplistically complex in the way that the interface is done.

We’ve come a long way from the days of Napster and Kazaa and even from bittorent for getting music. iTunes started the revolution and places like Last.fm and Pandora are enhancing it and enriching it. People can get the music they want on-demand now, in some cases legally-free and in others for pennies on the dollar.

The comments on this Digg submission are proof-positive that the revolution is being embraced by everyone and people are not as quick to condone illegal music downloading.
