Sports Media 2.0

The Sox opened the season at home today and put a hurting on the Mariners. In defense of the Mariners, they’ve been snowed out for a week. They were overmatched (and will be all year), Beckett even struck out the mighty Ichiro thrice.

For those that follow the Sox religiously, you may have come across Curt Schilling’s new blog (www.38pitches.com). In it, he does a great job with Q&A, insights into the game and has all but said that it is going to be his forum for getting info out, speaking his mind, etc. He is leading the way into a new era (no, not the hat company) for ways that pro athletes converse with their fan-base, all-the-while, leaving out the mass media and all of their twisting and turning of quotes to make their stories hum.

Schilling is using a simple wordpress blog, no big bells and whistles. Easy. Simple. I for one, enjoy reading it, and he’s done a good job keeping up on posts and not letting the blog get too stale. Time will tell, especially as the season drags on, if he keeps it up.

Sox 14-1 at the moment this was published (top 8th). Dice-K goes for us again tomorrow. Should be a dandy.
