Rise in Second Life Signups Explained
A couple reports have surfaced talking about a sudden rise in Second Life signups (reported to be a 300% increase in new signups) since the hack, check it out here, here, here and here (and here, here, here). (Sorry, I ran out of places to “here” you.)
Something very serious to consider here: how do we know all these new signups aren’t actually from hackers around the world. “Hey guys, Second Life user-data is ripe for the taking, let’s take a timeout from spreading political messages by defacing every website in the US and grab some private info on Second Lifers”.
I would say the 300% increase can be attributed to a) hackers and b) media folks who had no clue what Second Life was.
Who in their right minds would open up a bank account at a bank that just got robbed?
You know how I feel about this.
