IMDB.com should become the Next Big Social Network
why not? It really is a quasi-social network (aren’t they all) for tv and movie stars already. What would be interesting is if they opened it up for the stars to actually be able to post to their profile pages. It has comments, so that is a small start; and they already have an existing user-base from all those people who religiously post comments about movies that haven’t even been filmed yet. Rabid fans, profile pages for virtually anyone who’s ever been in a movie or tv show… seems like a good start.
You hear reports almost daily that Hollywood is a sinking ship, so why not rev up the Long Tail and do something to re-engage movie-goers. Make a place for stars and fans to connect– all wrapped around what is arguably a cooler collection of data than even wikipedia has.
Maybe team up with Fandango to take care of the ticketing angle, create an ImdbVideo player to get trailers, shorts, outtakes and possibly wrap it all up in a nice Netflix partnership (maybe Netflix should buy them).
cool.
