10 ways to do 2.0

There is a pattern here, I can feel it.

So you want to go 2.0? Here’s what you need to do:

1. start an auction on ebay early. You’ll most likely end up selling soon, because you’ll either run out of money or get Googled (and not in a good way).

2. Absolutely start out in some sort of invite-only, private alpha, then go beta and have Arrington write about you. Maybe also consider allowing people to sign up to receive an email for when you do go beta, but make sure you never actually send them an email.
3. Make sure you are a social network site for something. Anything will do, but when you announce the beta make sure you have some clever delivery like “we will put the social back in social networking.”

4. Consider doing some sort of online video sharing stuff, I hear that is a hot thing.

5. Make sure you have some sort of widget that can be placed in Myspace pages. That is extremely important.

6. At this point, I’d stay away from Facebook, they seem to get mad easily.

7. Mashable will most likely sign up and let all its subscribers know that they can add Mashable as a friend.

8. At this point, you are most likely going to have just enough traffic to use up a lot of bandwidth. This is the time panic usually sets in– possibly Calacanis hires away one of your dev guys to work on ‘Scape 2.0,  and then you realize that hosting your social network actually costs more than the ramen noodles you’ve been eating for each meal.

9. This is where #1 comes back into play… simply go back to your My Ebay account and make your auction live.

10. Sit back and relax as some 1990’s software sharing website comes out of nowhere and buys you up for pennies on your investment dollars.

That’s it. Now you don’t have a job. Just hop on to one of the A-list bloggers websites and find a new one.
